VMware announces an integrated system
to automate distribution and enforcement of McAfee’s network security
platform using its NSX network virtualisation system
VMware has an agreement with Intel McAfee Security unit to automate
and accelerate the deployment of the main security services in data
center environments.
The integrated system will use the network function NSX VMware
virtualization platform to automate the distribution of intelligent
intrusion prevention McAfee through the data center.
Martin
Casado, senior vice president and general manager of networks and
security and VMware co-founder of Nicira, the acquired company, which is
the heart of the activities of networks of VMware, said to 'now, is
west - or Internal - traffic data center has historically been very difficult to protect.
In
very simple terms, this is because the cost of implementing network
security devices for each server that sits in a data center would be
prohibitive, and as a result of the safety devices in data centers are
deployed to inspect and protect the north south traffic, ie, traffic in and out of the data center network.
Therefore, if an attacker to take control, for example, a virtual
private network (VPN) that bypasses the network security platform, he or
she can wreak havoc with little risk of detection.
By
virtualizing the Internet Connection Firewall, VMware NSX can
essentially distribute firewall around each server and perform an
intrusion detection (IDS) and prevention (IPS) in each package moving in
the data center, not only incoming traffic or outgoing, Casado said.
"This gives you access to McAfee for more traffic. Before they could see only 20% of it. Now you can see everything," he said.
Speaking
to Computer Weekly, Casado said that although the use cases of software
defined networks and network virtualization capabilities (NFV) were
only beginning to be understood, it was clear that VMware with
automation network configuration and provisioning, security is the main single reason for deploying NFV.More information on NFV
